January 3: FOMO Week at the Echo

featuring Bad Talkers, The Years, J.R. Slayer, Holy Wars, and Dancing Tongues

I’m trying to kick this depression/inertia in its ass, so I put on my boots and drove myself to the Echo for the second of the FOMO Week shows. Alas, The door guys turned me away as soon as they saw my camera. It’s a free show, what do I need a photo pass for? I forgot you were like this, LA. At least I just learned that Portland wants to demolish nearly all of its music venues, or I’d be outta here. Well, I was – I went back to my car and nearly left. I’d exchanged numbers with Kat from Holy Wars at Dolly Denko’s Halloween show, and she had sent me a really sweet text at 2 am, but I was in a frenzy to leave on my roadtrip up north to spread my parents’ ashes so I just…never replied. Notwithstanding that, I texted her now and she worked her magic to get me and my camera into the show. And I am so fucking glad I did it. Maybe I’m just in a hypomanic state, but it was a killer show by all the bands, and I feel energized to  cover a whole lot more shows. Anxiety did tell me to French exit halfway through Dancing Tongues’ set, but that’s pretty on par with me circa 2012 in San Francisco.
